. . la la Luella ~ *

Luella's imaginative, odd-shaped cuts are très post-moderne! Upright statues frolic in split-leveled layers of curtain-y dress, many in creamsicle hues, supplemented with elaborate fabric on the mittens. The Luella models are ballerina queens on the street. I adore the brassy chunkiness of the lines, their curving slope, their abstract paths. Bows (particularly off-the-shoulder, magnetized ones,) ruffles, and other flouncy things are ubiquitously signature in Luella's look-book. Headwear looks equestrian with a kind of meadow-y essence--Luella loves to put transparent fishnets over the models' foreheads with

morsels of material stitched in to assemble a kind of a beehive semblance. Look at those tulip shades in her frock, and the crafty design of the bold royal and orange stiletto. Orange holiday. Sunday tea and crumpets between peculiar artists.
Almost like Betsey Johnson's beautiful fashion landscapes--without all the frosting and little more transcendalist essence. Luella proclaims at her petal-y ready-to-wear London Spring 2009 collection show that "[she] loves that whole...dress up thing." And the pearls. . they can never be too large, they can never be too conspicuous.
